This is one of our most popular itinerary formats. The classic Kenya combination is 4–5 days on safari in the Masai Mara and Amboseli followed by 3–4 days at Diani Beach. Internal flights connect the Mara to Mombasa in 90 minutes. Alternatively, drive from Tsavo to Diani in 4 hours through spectacular scenery. The SGR train from Nairobi to Mombasa is another scenic option — a 5-hour journey through Tsavo where you often spot elephants and giraffes from the window.

Yes — Kenya's popular beaches are safe for swimming. The coral reef creates a natural barrier that calms wave action and keeps the lagoon shallow and warm. Lifeguards are present at major beach hotels. Jellyfish are rare but can occur during certain tidal conditions. We recommend water shoes for reef walks. All our recommended beaches are well-maintained with security patrols. Watamu and Diani are particularly family-friendly with gentle slopes and calm water.

Snorkelling and scuba diving at Watamu and Diani marine parks reveal vibrant coral reefs with sea turtles and tropical fish. Kitesurfing at Diani is world-class from December to March. Deep-sea fishing charters target blue marlin and sailfish. Glass-bottom boat tours suit non-swimmers. Dolphin-watching at Kisite-Mpunguti, kayaking through Mida Creek mangroves, and paddleboarding round out the options. Most activities are available year-round, though visibility peaks October to March.

December to March offers the best beach weather — sunny, hot (28–32°C), calm seas, and excellent underwater visibility. June to October is drier but slightly cooler with stronger Kusi winds — ideal for kitesurfing. April to May brings the long rains with occasional heavy showers, though resorts remain open at reduced rates. The coast is warmer than the highlands year-round, making it a great add-on in any season. Water temperature stays between 25–29°C throughout the year.
