Day-by-Day Itinerary
Arrival in Zanzibar
Your driver meets you at Zanzibar Airport and transfers you to your beach resort — the drive along palm-lined roads passes through small villages, spice plantations, and stretches of tropical greenery before the Indian Ocean appears in a breathtaking sweep of turquoise and white. At your resort, you're welcomed with fresh tropical juice and a cool towel. The rest of the day is yours — walk the powder-white beach, swim in the warm, crystal-clear water, or simply settle into a sun lounger and let the rhythm of the waves ease you into island time. As evening falls, the sky turns from gold to deep pink, and the scent of grilled seafood and Zanzibari spices drifts from the restaurant. Your first dinner on the island is a taste of what's to come.
Stone Town Tour
8:30 AM. After breakfast, your guide picks you up for a half-day tour of Stone Town — Zanzibar's UNESCO World Heritage heart. The narrow alleys wind between coral-stone buildings with intricately carved wooden doors, each one telling a story of the island's layered Swahili, Arab, and European heritage. You visit the Old Fort, the Palace Museum, and the former slave market where a cathedral now stands in solemn remembrance. Your guide leads you through the spice bazaar — sacks of cloves, cinnamon sticks, cardamom pods, and vanilla — the fragrances mingling in the warm air. You return to your beach resort by early afternoon with the rest of the day at leisure. The turquoise water beckons, or you might simply read beneath a palm tree as the ocean breeze rustles the fronds above.
Spice Tour
8:00 AM. Today takes you into Zanzibar's fragrant interior for a spice plantation tour. Your guide walks you through lush tropical gardens where cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, black pepper, vanilla, and lemongrass grow in profusion. You'll taste fresh spices straight from the trees, smell crushed clove leaves, and learn how Zanzibar earned its title as the Spice Island. Local guides demonstrate traditional uses — turmeric as medicine, coconut oil pressed by hand, and cinnamon bark peeled from the trunk. After a traditional Swahili lunch at the plantation, you return to your resort by early afternoon. The rest of the day is yours on the beach — swim, kayak in the shallows, or walk along the sand as fishermen mend their nets and children play in the tide pools.
Beach Day
Today is entirely yours — a full day of tropical relaxation or optional adventure, depending on your mood. For the active: a snorkeling or diving trip to the coral reefs, where parrotfish, moray eels, sea turtles, and schools of tropical fish swim through the warm waters. Or hire a traditional dhow for a sailing trip along the coast, the Indian Ocean breeze filling the lateen sail. For the relaxed: swim, sunbathe, walk the endless white beach, or book a beachside massage. As evening falls, consider the optional sunset dhow cruise — drifting on the calm ocean as the sun drops into the water, the sky cycling through gold, amber, and violet while the crew serves fresh fruit and snacks. Dinner tonight features freshly caught seafood prepared with Zanzibari spice blends.
Departure
Enjoy a final breakfast at your beach resort as the morning light plays across the turquoise water. Depending on your flight time, you may have a last swim in the warm Indian Ocean, a farewell walk along the powder-white sand, or a quiet moment watching the fishing dhows head out with the morning tide. Your driver collects you and transfers you to Zanzibar Airport for your departure flight. The drive passes through palm groves, small villages with corrugated roofs and flowering gardens, and the occasional spice plantation. Five days of island life have worked their magic — the taste of fresh coconut, the warmth of the ocean, the fragrance of cloves in the evening air, and the easy rhythm of Zanzibar time.
