Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1

Nairobi to Masai Mara

6:00 AM. Your guide collects you from your Nairobi hotel and you head west toward the legendary Masai Mara. The five-to-six-hour drive climbs past the Great Rift Valley escarpment — stop here for a sweeping panoramic view of the valley floor stretching below, its patchwork of farms and distant volcanic hills. Continue through Narok town into Maasai pastoral country, where herders in crimson shukas walk alongside their cattle. The golden savannah of the Mara opens before you as you arrive in the early afternoon. After checking into your safari lodge for lunch, the afternoon game drive delivers immediate thrills — lions resting in the tall grass, elephants moving through scattered acacia woodland, and herds of wildebeest and zebra stretching across the vast rolling plains.

Day 2

Full Day Masai Mara

5:30 AM. A full day in the Masai Mara begins before dawn, when the savannah is bathed in golden light and predators are at their most active. Your guide tracks cheetahs across the open plains and follows leopard trails to sausage trees where these elusive cats rest with their kills. By mid-morning, you reach the famous Mara River — home to massive hippo pods and enormous Nile crocodiles. During the Great Migration (July-October), hundreds of thousands of wildebeest gather at the riverbanks for the dramatic crossings. After lunch at the lodge, the afternoon explores the Mara Triangle's rolling hills — topi stand sentinel on every ridge, eland graze the green flats, and giraffes browse the acacia canopy. The optional hot air balloon safari at dawn offers a breathtaking bird's-eye perspective of this extraordinary landscape.

Day 3

Masai Mara to Lake Nakuru

7:00 AM. After breakfast, you leave the Masai Mara and drive east toward Lake Nakuru National Park, roughly four hours through the Rift Valley. This compact but wildlife-rich reserve encircles an alkaline lake famous for its flamingos — thousands lining the shore in a shimmering pink band. Lake Nakuru is also one of Kenya's most important rhino sanctuaries, home to both black and white rhinos. Your afternoon game drive takes you along the lakeshore where pelicans and flamingos crowd the shallows, then through euphorbia forest where Rothschild's giraffes browse and leopards sometimes rest in the canopy. A stop at Baboon Cliff provides sweeping views across the lake and the densely wooded valley below. Watch for the tree-climbing lions that occasionally appear here.

Day 4

Lake Nakuru to Amboseli

7:00 AM. You depart Lake Nakuru and drive south toward Amboseli National Park, roughly five hours through the Rift Valley and across the Maasai steppe. The landscape grows drier and more open, and gradually Mount Kilimanjaro's snow-capped dome emerges on the southern horizon — growing more impressive with every kilometer. Arriving by early afternoon, you check into your safari lodge with the mountain dominating the view. The afternoon game drive immerses you in Amboseli's elephant kingdom: over 1,500 elephants roam these open plains, photographed against Kilimanjaro more often than any wildlife in Africa. Wading birds fish in the green marshes, lions rest in the golden grass, and the evening light turns the mountain's glaciers a deep rose pink.

Day 5

Full Day Amboseli

5:30 AM. An early start captures Kilimanjaro cloud-free — its glaciers catching the first pink rays while the plains are still wrapped in morning mist. Elephants emerge from the haze in great herds, their gentle rumbles the only sound in the stillness. Your guide heads to the Enkongo Narok swamps where hippos wallow and pelicans fish. Midmorning, you climb Observation Hill for a 360-degree panorama of the park — the dried lake bed, the green wetland veins, and the great mountain presiding over everything. Return for lunch, then depart south to the Namanga border, roughly two hours away. The crossing into Tanzania is smooth — your guide handles paperwork while you observe the frontier-town energy. Continue two hours to Arusha, arriving by late afternoon to your lodge beneath Mount Meru.

Day 6

Amboseli to Arusha — Cross into Tanzania

7:00 AM. You leave Arusha and drive roughly two hours to Tarangire National Park — a landscape unlike anything you've seen so far. Ancient baobab trees tower over the dry savannah, their massive swollen trunks giving the park an almost prehistoric atmosphere. The Tarangire River is the park's lifeline, drawing the largest concentration of elephants in Tanzania during the dry season — herds of several hundred gather along its banks. Your guide navigates through this extraordinary landscape where lions rest beneath the baobabs, giraffes stretch to browse the highest branches, and over 550 bird species fill the air with sound. Look for the yellow-collared lovebirds, endemic to this area, and the enormous martial eagles soaring overhead. The sunset behind ancient baobab silhouettes is unforgettable.

Day 7

Arusha to Tarangire National Park

6:00 AM. After a morning game drive through Tarangire — catching elephants at the river in golden dawn light — you depart westward toward the Serengeti. The drive takes you through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area highlands, climbing through misty forest before crossing the short-grass plains. You enter the Serengeti by early afternoon, and the landscape transforms into the iconic endless plains — flat golden grassland stretching to every horizon. Your afternoon game drive reveals the world's most celebrated wildlife park: wildebeest and zebra herds numbering in the hundreds of thousands, cheetahs hunting across the open ground, and your guide navigating toward the Seronera Valley where leopards drape themselves along riverine fig trees. The Serengeti sunset — an enormous orange disc sinking behind the infinite horizon — is legendary.

Day 8

Tarangire to Serengeti National Park

6:00 AM. A full day in the Serengeti — the greatest wildlife arena on Earth. The morning drive takes you through the central Seronera area where the river attracts leopards, hippos, and huge Nile crocodiles. Your guide navigates between granite kopjes — ancient rock outcrops where lion prides rest in the shade, surveying their vast territory. The open plains stretch endlessly, dotted with moving herds and hunting cheetahs sprinting after their prey. After a packed lunch under an acacia canopy, the afternoon explores different sectors — perhaps the marshes where elephants and buffalo gather, or the kopje country where serval cats and jackals are more frequently spotted. Secretary birds stomp through the grass, and martial eagles circle above. The light at dusk turns the endless grassland to liquid gold.

Day 9

Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater

6:30 AM. A morning game drive captures the Serengeti at dawn before you depart eastward toward Ngorongoro. The drive crosses the plains and climbs into the forested highlands, arriving at the crater rim by early afternoon. Your vehicle descends 600 meters into the caldera — the world's largest intact volcanic crater. The floor is home to roughly 25,000 animals in a natural amphitheatre just 19 kilometers across. Within the first hour, you encounter lions, elephants, buffalo, and massive herds of wildebeest. Your guide tracks the rare black rhinos — fewer than 30 survive here. Lake Magadi shimmers pink with flamingos at the crater's center. You enjoy a picnic lunch beside a hippo pool while crowned cranes stalk the marsh. Continue exploring until late afternoon before ascending to your lodge on the rim.

Day 10

Ngorongoro to Arusha — Departure

6:00 AM. A final early morning descent into the Ngorongoro Crater captures the dawn light raking across the caldera floor — golden, warm, and utterly magical. Lions are on the move, hyenas trot back to their dens, and the crater feels like a secret world hidden from the rest of the planet. Your guide covers any areas missed yesterday — perhaps the Gorigor Swamp where crowned cranes and saddle-billed storks wade, or the Lerai Forest where elephants browse beneath towering yellow-barked acacias. By mid-morning, you ascend the crater wall for the last time, pausing at the rim for one final panoramic look at this extraordinary wonder. The three-hour drive to Arusha passes through highland farmland and small villages. You arrive by early afternoon for your departure or transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport.
