Seamless Cross-Border Logistics
Visa arrangements, permit bookings, flight connections, and ground transfers are all handled by C.A.T.S. The East Africa Tourist Visa simplifies border crossing, and your itinerary is designed to maximise time in the field rather than in transit.
Unmatched Wildlife Diversity
Kenya offers the Big Five on vast savannahs and the Great Migration spectacle. Uganda adds mountain gorillas, chimpanzees, tree-climbing lions, and over 1,000 bird species in lush tropical forests. Together, they cover an extraordinary range of habitats and species.
Affordable Gorilla Permits
Uganda gorilla permits cost $700 per person, making it the most accessible destination for gorilla trekking in Africa. Combined with Kenya's well-developed tourism infrastructure, this pairing offers excellent value for an unforgettable dual-country experience.
Cultural Encounters
Visit Maasai communities in Kenya and the Batwa pygmy people near Bwindi for genuine cultural exchanges. These encounters add depth to your safari beyond wildlife viewing and support local communities directly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Uganda gorilla trekking permits cost $700 per person per trek as set by the Uganda Wildlife Authority. Permits must be booked well in advance, especially for peak season (June to September and December to February). C.A.T.S secures permits on your behalf as part of your safari package, so availability is confirmed before you travel.
The East Africa Tourist Visa covers Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda under a single visa costing $100. It allows multiple entries between these three countries for up to 90 days. You can apply online before travel or obtain it on arrival. C.A.T.S provides guidance on the application process and required documentation.
The most common route is a domestic flight from Nairobi (Jomo Kenyatta or Wilson Airport) to Entebbe International Airport in Uganda, taking approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. Several daily flights operate this route. From Entebbe, your Uganda ground team meets you for the onward drive to your safari destinations. C.A.T.S coordinates all flight bookings and ground transfers seamlessly.
The dry seasons from June to October and December to February are ideal for both countries. Game viewing in Kenya is best during these periods with the Great Migration in the Masai Mara peaking from July to October. Gorilla trekking in Bwindi is possible year-round, but dry months make forest trails more manageable. The shoulder months of March and November offer fewer crowds and lower rates.
Gorilla trekking involves hiking through dense tropical forest at altitudes between 1,160m and 2,607m. Treks typically last 2 to 6 hours depending on the gorilla family location. You should be in reasonable physical fitness and comfortable walking on uneven, sometimes steep and muddy terrain. Porters are available for hire to carry your daypack and provide support. Walking sticks are provided. There is no age minimum but trekkers must be at least 15 years old.
