Tour Highlights
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Nairobi to Amboseli
6:00 AM. Your guide picks you up from your Nairobi hotel and you head south toward Amboseli National Park, roughly four hours through the open Athi Plains and Maasai rangeland. As you leave the city behind, the landscape shifts to dry savannah dotted with acacia scrub, and gradually Mount Kilimanjaro's iconic snow-capped summit emerges through the morning haze — growing larger with every kilometer. You arrive at your safari lodge for lunch with the mountain dominating the southern horizon. The afternoon game drive immerses you in Amboseli's legendary elephant kingdom — herds of over a hundred strong moving across the dusty plains, their silhouettes framed against Africa's tallest mountain. Lions rest in the golden grass, crowned cranes stalk the marshes, and the late-afternoon light makes every photograph extraordinary.
Amboseli to Lake Naivasha
6:00 AM. After an early morning game drive through Amboseli — catching elephants at the swamps beneath a cloud-free Kilimanjaro — you depart northward toward the Great Rift Valley. The drive of roughly five hours takes you through Maasai pastoral land and up onto the Rift Valley escarpment before descending to Lake Naivasha, a beautiful freshwater lake fringed with papyrus beds and yellow-barked acacia trees. After checking into your lakeside lodge, the afternoon brings a boat ride on the lake. Hippos surface just meters from your vessel, their ears twitching, while African fish eagles swoop down to snatch tilapia from the water with a piercing cry. Cormorants, herons, and kingfishers line the papyrus banks. The lake is surrounded by extinct volcanoes, and the evening light turns the water silver.
Naivasha to Masai Mara
7:00 AM. You leave Lake Naivasha and drive west toward the Masai Mara, roughly five hours through the floor of the Rift Valley and the green hills of Narok County. The road passes through Maasai country — herders in red shukas walk beside their cattle, and the landscape gradually opens into the vast golden savannah the Mara is famous for. Arriving by early afternoon, you check into your safari lodge for lunch and then head straight out for a game drive. The Masai Mara's open plains are one of Africa's premier wildlife destinations — lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, buffalo, and enormous herds of wildebeest and zebra share this incredible landscape. Your guide reads the terrain expertly, following fresh tracks and scanning the horizon for movement.
Full Day Masai Mara
5:30 AM. A full day in the Masai Mara — one of Earth's greatest wildlife theaters. The early morning drive catches the savannah bathed in golden light as predators finish their night hunts. Your guide tracks a cheetah family across the open plains, or follows a leopard's trail to a sausage tree where it rests with its kill. By mid-morning, you reach the Mara River — the setting for the Great Migration's dramatic crossings between July and October. Hippos grunt in the deep pools while enormous crocodiles bask on sandy banks. After a bush lunch, the afternoon drive explores different sectors of the reserve — the Mara Triangle's rolling hills, the acacia woodland where giraffes browse, and the open flats where topi stand sentinel on every termite mound. Return to your lodge as sunset turns the savannah amber.
Mara to Serengeti
6:30 AM. After breakfast, you leave the Masai Mara and begin the drive south toward Tanzania. You cross the border at Isebania, where your guide assists with immigration formalities at this lively frontier town. Once into Tanzania, you continue toward the Serengeti National Park, entering through the western corridor. The landscape transforms into the famous endless plains — flat, treeless grassland stretching to every horizon under an enormous African sky. Your afternoon game drive reveals why this is the world's most celebrated wildlife park: wildebeest herds numbering in the hundreds of thousands, zebra columns winding across the golden grass, and predators — lions, cheetahs, leopards — hunting in the open. Check into your safari lodge as the Serengeti sun drops behind the infinite horizon.
Full Day Serengeti
6:00 AM. A full day in the Serengeti — the greatest wildlife arena on the planet. Your morning drive explores the Seronera Valley, where the river attracts leopards to its fig-tree-lined banks and huge crocodiles lie motionless in the deeper pools. Your guide navigates between granite kopjes — ancient rock outcrops rising from the plains where lion prides survey their territory and rock hyraxes sun themselves. The open grasslands stretch endlessly, dotted with moving columns of wildebeest and zebra. After a packed lunch under an acacia canopy, the afternoon drive takes you to new areas — perhaps the marsh where elephants and buffalo gather, or the short-grass plains where cheetahs sprint after Thomson's gazelles. The Serengeti at sunset — the sky stacked in bands of gold, orange, and violet — is utterly unforgettable.
Serengeti to Ngorongoro
6:30 AM. A morning game drive captures the Serengeti's golden dawn light one final time before you depart eastward toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The route crosses the short-grass plains and climbs gradually into the forested highlands, with Maasai herders tending their cattle among the ancient volcanic landscape. You arrive at the crater rim by mid-afternoon and check into your lodge perched at 2,200 meters. The view from the rim takes your breath away — the caldera drops 600 meters to a vast green floor where thousands of animals graze around a shimmering soda lake. The air is cool and crisp at this altitude, and the setting sun turns the crater walls deep amber. Dinner at your lodge feels like dining at the edge of the world.
Ngorongoro Crater
6:00 AM. Your vehicle descends the steep crater wall into the Ngorongoro Crater — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the world's largest intact volcanic caldera. The floor stretches 260 square kilometers, and roughly 25,000 animals call it home. Within the first hour, you'll encounter lions resting in the open grass, elephants browsing through the Lerai Forest, and massive buffalo herds. Your guide tracks the rare black rhinos — fewer than 30 survive here, and a sighting is a genuine privilege. Lake Magadi, the shallow soda lake at the crater's heart, shimmers pink with flamingos. You enjoy a picnic lunch beside a hippo pool while crowned cranes and kori bustards stalk the nearby marsh. Continue exploring the crater floor until late afternoon before ascending the wall for the night.
Ngorongoro to Tarangire
7:00 AM. You leave Ngorongoro and drive south toward Tarangire National Park, roughly three hours through the Rift Valley lowlands. Tarangire is a different world — ancient baobab trees, some over a thousand years old, tower over dry savannah, their swollen trunks looking like they've been planted upside down. The Tarangire River is the park's lifeline, drawing the largest concentration of elephants in Tanzania during the dry season — herds of several hundred gather along its banks. Your afternoon game drive takes you through this remarkable landscape. Lions rest beneath the baobabs, tree-climbing pythons coil in the branches overhead, and over 550 bird species make this a birding paradise — look for yellow-collared lovebirds, which are endemic to this area. The sunset behind the ancient baobab silhouettes is iconic.
Tarangire to Arusha/Nairobi
6:00 AM. An early morning game drive through Tarangire catches the park in its most peaceful hour — elephants moving slowly through the golden grass, giraffes stretching to browse the treetops, and the river drawing a steady procession of wildlife to drink. The morning light is warm and low, perfect for photography among the baobab forests. Your guide covers any areas missed yesterday, perhaps the Silale Swamp where buffalo and waterbuck congregate, or the Lemiyon sector where lesser kudus hide in the dense bush. By mid-morning, you bid farewell to Tarangire and begin the two-hour drive back to Arusha, passing through Maasai steppe and small farming communities. You arrive in Arusha by early afternoon for lunch and your onward travel — whether that's a flight from Kilimanjaro Airport or a transfer back to Nairobi.
