Day-by-Day Itinerary
Nairobi to Amboseli & Back
5:00 AM. Your driver-guide collects you from your Nairobi hotel and you head south on the Namanga Road as the first light of dawn spreads across the Athi Plains. The countryside wakes around you — Maasai herdsmen in bright-red shukas walk their cattle along the roadside, and the outline of Mount Kilimanjaro slowly sharpens on the southern horizon. After a breakfast stop roughly halfway, you enter Amboseli National Park through Meshanani Gate by mid-morning. The game driving begins immediately: herds of elephants — sometimes dozens strong — cross the open plains with Kilimanjaro's snow-capped peak towering behind them, creating one of Africa's most iconic photo opportunities. Your guide navigates toward the Enkongo Narok swamp, where hippos wallow and Egyptian geese line the banks. After a picnic lunch with views of the mountain, you climb Observation Hill for a sweeping 360-degree panorama of the park — the dried lake bed, green swamplands, and dust trails of elephant families below. The afternoon drive focuses on predators: lion prides resting in the short grass and cheetahs scanning the plains from termite mounds. By late afternoon you depart, arriving back in Nairobi around 8:00–8:30 PM.
