5-Day Masai Mara & Amboseli Safari | Big Five Adventure
Unlimited Wildlife Encounter
Two legendary parks, five unforgettable days. This safari connects the predator-rich plains of the Masai Mara with the elephant kingdom of Amboseli, passing through the scenic Rift Valley and Lake Naivasha along the way. Expect Big Five encounters on the Mara's endless grasslands β lions, leopards, and the Great Migration's thundering herds in season. Then shift south to Amboseli, where enormous elephant families roam beneath the towering peak of Mount Kilimanjaro. A boat ride on Lake Naivasha adds hippos and fish eagles to the mix. Kenya's greatest wildlife highlights in a single journey.

Day-by-Day Itinerary
Nairobi to Masai Mara
5:30 AM. Your driver-guide picks you up from your Nairobi hotel and you head west toward the Masai Mara in your private 4x4 safari vehicle. The road climbs through the green Kikuyu highlands before the Great Rift Valley escarpment appears β a staggering view across an ancient geological wonder. Pause for photos, then descend through the valley floor. A breakfast stop in Narok fuels you for the final stretch, where tarmac gives way to red-earth roads winding through Maasai grazing lands. Herdsmen in bright shukas walk alongside their cattle. By late morning you enter the Mara through Sekenani Gate, and the golden savannah opens up endlessly before you. Check into your safari lodge for lunch, then set off on an afternoon game drive along the Talek River. Lion prides lounge in the shade of croton bushes, giraffes browse the scattered acacia, and vast herds of zebra and wildebeest dot the plains. The warm afternoon light turns the grassland golden as you return to camp.
Full Day in Masai Mara
6:00 AM. A full day in the Mara β Africa's greatest wildlife theatre. The dawn drive heads toward the open plains where cheetahs perch on termite mounds scanning for breakfast. Your guide reads the landscape expertly, tracking fresh prints in the dewy grass. Mid-morning, push deeper toward the Mara River, where hippos crowd the murky pools and massive Nile crocodiles lie motionless on sandy banks. During the Great Migration (JulyβOctober), this is ground zero for the dramatic wildebeest crossings β thousands surging through the current while crocodiles lurk below. Enjoy a bush picnic lunch with nothing but savannah in every direction. The afternoon drive explores different sectors β perhaps the Musiara Marsh where elephants drink in the golden light, or the Mara Triangle where buffalo herds a thousand strong darken the hillsides. An optional visit to a Maasai village introduces you to their ancient pastoralist culture, complete with traditional dancing and beadwork. Return to your lodge as the sun sets over the Oloololo Escarpment.
Masai Mara to Lake Naivasha
7:00 AM. After breakfast, check out of your Mara lodge and begin the scenic drive east toward Lake Naivasha. The route climbs out of Maasai country and back through the Rift Valley β the landscape shifting from golden savannah to green farmland and then to the shimmering expanse of the freshwater lake. Arrive at Lake Naivasha by early afternoon and settle into your lakeside hotel for lunch. In the afternoon, board a boat for a safari on the lake β gliding through floating mats of water hyacinth as fish eagles call from the papyrus beds and hippos surface alongside the boat, their ears twitching. The birdlife here is extraordinary: pelicans, cormorants, herons, and lily-trotters. If time allows, take the short boat ride to Crescent Island for a walking safari among free-roaming giraffes, zebras, and wildebeest β one of the few places in Kenya you can walk among wildlife without a fence. Return to your hotel as the late afternoon sun gilds the lake.
Lake Naivasha to Amboseli
7:00 AM. After an early breakfast, depart Lake Naivasha and drive south toward Amboseli National Park. The route takes you back through Nairobi and onto the Nairobi-Namanga highway β the landscape gradually drying as you leave the highlands behind. Scattered acacia trees and red soil replace the lush lakeside scenery. By late morning, if the skies are clear, Mount Kilimanjaro begins to emerge on the horizon β Africa's highest peak, its snow-capped summit floating impossibly above the plains. Arrive at Amboseli around lunchtime and check into your safari lodge. After lunch, head out for an afternoon game drive through Amboseli's distinctive terrain β the dried lake bed shimmers in the heat while the swamps fed by Kilimanjaro's glacial melt teem with life. Enormous elephant herds β some of Africa's largest tuskers β parade across the dusty plains with Kilimanjaro as their backdrop. Spot zebra, giraffe, cape buffalo, and wading birds along the marsh edges as the mountain turns rose-gold in the fading light.
Amboseli to Nairobi
6:00 AM. Your final morning starts with an early game drive β the best time for Kilimanjaro views before clouds build around the summit. Your guide navigates toward Observation Hill, where you climb to the top for a sweeping panorama of the entire Amboseli basin: elephant herds moving through the morning mist below, the swamps glinting green against the dusty plains, and Kilimanjaro standing in full majesty to the south. Descend and drive along the Enkongo Narok swamp edge, where hippos wallow and crowned cranes pick through the reeds. Large bull elephants emerge from the papyrus to drink, water dripping from their massive tusks. By 9:00 AM, return to your lodge for breakfast and check out. The drive back to Nairobi takes approximately four hours, passing through the Athi Plains and arriving in the city by early to mid-afternoon. Drop-off at your hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
