Day-by-Day Itinerary
Arusha to Serengeti via Ngorongoro
6:00 AM. Early departure from Arusha, driving west through the fertile highlands around Karatu and climbing to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area gate. The forested rim road offers glimpses of the crater below, but today you press on toward the Serengeti. Descending the western slope, the vast Serengeti plains appear, stretching to every horizon. Your guide has been tracking migration reports and positions you in the right sector. Game driving begins as you enter the park. Arrive at your safari lodge by late afternoon.

Serengeti — Migration Tracking
5:30 AM. Your guide has radio contact with other vehicles and lodge scouts. The morning drive heads directly toward the migration front — wherever the herds are massing. The spectacle is incomprehensible: hundreds of thousands of wildebeest stretching across the plains in long dark columns, their constant grunting creating a low rumble. Zebra herds weave through the wildebeest, Thomson's gazelles dot the periphery. Where the herds move, predators follow — lions stalk from tall grass, cheetahs explode from cover, hyena clans patrol. Bush lunch in the field. If a river crossing is building, you may spend hours watching thousands of wildebeest leaping into the churning water, crocodiles surfacing, and the thunderous rush of the herd.

Serengeti — Full Day Game Drives
5:30 AM. A second full day exploring different Serengeti sectors. The kopjes — massive granite outcrops where lions establish territories and hyraxes sun themselves. The Moru Kopjes have ancient Maasai rock paintings. Or head to riverine forests where leopards hunt among fig trees and elephants browse green corridors. The birdlife is spectacular — secretary birds, martial eagles, and lilac-breasted rollers. Bush picnic lunch, then continue through the golden afternoon.

Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater
6:00 AM. Final morning game drive in the Serengeti. After breakfast, depart eastward, climbing back into the Ngorongoro highlands. Arrive at your crater-rim lodge in the afternoon. Walk to the viewpoint and look 600 metres down into the caldera — the vast green floor dotted with lakes and forest. Tomorrow you descend.
Ngorongoro Crater Game Drive — Return to Arusha
6:00 AM. Descend into the caldera as morning mist lifts. The Ngorongoro Crater is 260 square kilometres of enclosed grassland, forest, and lake — home to approximately 25,000 large mammals. Black rhinos graze openly, lion prides patrol, elephants move through the Lerai Forest, and Lake Magadi shimmers pink with flamingos. Picnic lunch on the crater floor. Ascend in the early afternoon and drive back to Arusha through the cool highlands.
