Day-by-Day Itinerary
Arusha to Tarangire National Park
7:00 AM. Your guide collects you from your Arusha hotel and drives south toward Tarangire National Park. The two-hour journey passes through Maasai steppe country — dry golden grasslands dotted with small bomas and herds of cattle tended by Maasai herdsmen in red shukas. At Tarangire's gate, the landscape transforms. Colossal baobab trees — their trunks wider than vehicles, their branches bare against the blue sky — dominate the terrain. Tarangire is elephant country like nowhere else: herds of 200 or more gather along the Tarangire River during the dry season, drinking, bathing, and churning the red earth into dust clouds. Lion prides sleep in the dappled shade of the baobabs, leopards drape themselves over branches, and the birdlife is extraordinary — over 550 species recorded.

Tarangire to Serengeti
6:30 AM. Early morning game drive in Tarangire to catch the elephants at dawn. After breakfast, begin the journey west toward the Serengeti, driving through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area highlands. The road passes through the Ngorongoro Forest Reserve, where the air is cool and misty, colobus monkeys swing through the canopy, and the landscape is impossibly green. Descend the western slope and suddenly the Serengeti appears — an ocean of golden grass stretching to every horizon. Game driving begins immediately as you enter the park. Check into your Serengeti lodge by late afternoon.

Full Day Serengeti
5:30 AM. A full day exploring the Serengeti's legendary ecosystem. The morning drive heads into the Central Serengeti's Seronera Valley, where the Seronera River attracts predators and prey in equal measure. Leopards are frequently spotted in the riverine fig trees, and lion prides stake out the crossing points. Your guide follows the seasonal migration patterns — during the dry months, massive herds of wildebeest and zebra move through the Western Corridor toward the Grumeti River. In the wet season, the Southern Plains become a nursery. Bush lunch under an acacia tree. The afternoon explores the granite kopjes where lions bask on sun-warmed rocks, or the hippo pools where dozens of hippos crowd together.
Serengeti Morning Drive — Return to Arusha
6:00 AM. Final dawn game drive through the Serengeti. The morning light is the best light — golden, warm, long shadows stretching across the grasslands. After breakfast and check-out, begin the return journey east through the Ngorongoro highlands and back to Arusha. The drive offers sweeping views of the Rift Valley. Arrive in Arusha by late afternoon.
