4-Day Serengeti Calving Season Safari | Newborn Wildebeest & Predator Action
Witness 8,000 Calves Born Daily on the Southern Serengeti Plains
Four days timed for the calving season — one of the Serengeti's greatest wildlife spectacles. Between January and March, over 500,000 wildebeest calves are born on the Southern Serengeti plains. The sheer number of newborns attracts every predator in the ecosystem, creating non-stop action.

Day-by-Day Itinerary
Arusha to Ngorongoro to Southern Serengeti
6:00 AM. Early departure toward the Southern Serengeti via the Ngorongoro highlands. The target is the Ndutu plains — the epicentre of the calving season. As you approach, the plains are carpeted with wildebeest as far as the eye can see. Newborn calves wobble on spindly legs beside their mothers. The air smells of dust and dung. Predators are everywhere — cheetahs scan from termite mounds, lion prides wait in the tall grass, and hyena clans patrol the edges.

Southern Serengeti — Calving Grounds
5:30 AM. Full day on the calving plains. The action is relentless — a cheetah sprint here, a lion stalk there, a hyena chase across the short grass. Your guide positions you near the action. Approximately 8,000 calves are born daily during peak season. The calves can stand and run within minutes — those that can't don't survive. Bush lunch. Afternoon continues the drama as vultures circle and jackals dash.

Full Day Serengeti & Ndutu
5:30 AM. Second full day exploring different areas of the southern migration. The Ndutu woodlands harbour leopards, and the lake edges attract flamingos. The contrast between the vast open plains and the woodland areas creates diverse photography and wildlife opportunities.
Morning Drive — Ngorongoro Crater — Return to Arusha
6:00 AM. Final morning on the calving plains. Then drive to the Ngorongoro Crater for a half-day descent. Big Five encounters in the caldera. Ascend and return to Arusha by evening.
