4-Day Mt. Kenya Climb — Naro Moru Route
The Fastest Route to Point Lenana
The Naro Moru Route is Mt. Kenya's most direct path to Point Lenana (4,985m) — perfect for adventurous trekkers with limited time. This 4-day expedition takes you through every zone of Africa's second highest mountain, including the infamous 'Vertical Bog' (don't worry — it's been boarded over!), the Teleki Valley beneath towering rock spires, and the alpine moonscape of the summit zone. While it's the shortest route, it offers some of Mt. Kenya's most dramatic scenery and the satisfaction of summiting one of Africa's greatest peaks in just 4 days.
Safari Highlights
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Naro Moru Gate (2,400m) to Met Station (3,050m)
Drive to Naro Moru Gate. Trek through mountain forest with hardwood trees, elephant trails, and abundant birdlife. The Met Station is an old weather station surrounded by forest — a comfortable first camp.
Met Station (3,050m) to Mackinder's Camp (4,200m)
The big day: cross the famous 'Vertical Bog' — a steep moorland section that was once a quagmire but now has boardwalks. Emerge into the Teleki Valley with its giant groundsels and views of Batian and Nelion's dramatic rock faces. Camp at Mackinder's — named after the first European to summit.
Summit Point Lenana (4,985m) at Sunrise, Descend to Met Station
3 AM wake-up for the summit push. Trek across the alpine desert and up the scree to Austrian Hut, then to Point Lenana (4,985m). Watch the sunrise illuminate Batian and Nelion — an unforgettable moment. Descend to Mackinder's for breakfast, then continue to Met Station.
Met Station to Naro Moru Gate — Return to Nairobi
Descend through the forest, perhaps spotting wildlife missed on the way up. Collect your certificate at the gate. Drive back to Nairobi.
