4-Day Tsavo & Amboseli Safari | Classic Kenya Parks Tour

Unforgettable African Adventure

A four-day journey through Kenya's wild southern heartland — from the rust-red plains of Tsavo to the snow-capped majesty of Kilimanjaro. Expect herds of red-dust elephants roaming beneath Mudanda Rock, lion prides patrolling Tsavo's vast savannah, and rhino sightings in a protected sanctuary. The landscape shifts dramatically — lava beds and cool springs in Tsavo West give way to Amboseli's open marshlands where elephants parade against Africa's tallest peak. Four days, three legendary parks, and Kenya's most diverse wildlife corridor.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

1

Nairobi - Tsavo East National Park

~233km | Approx. 3-4hrs, approx. 4-5 hrs 6:00 am.  Wherever your pickup spot – hotel, airport, or another place of your choosing – your driver/guide will be there with your private 4 x 4 Safari Jeep to begin the adventure. So, climb in and let’s get your safari started on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway. Traveling in your well-equipped Jeep, you can make use of the provided binoculars and guidebooks to get a head start on your safari. Also, your guide is an unending source of information about the land and wildlife. Along the route, we’ll stop to rest and get refreshments. Entering the park at the southern gate take in the endless plains, sparse in vegetation but rich with wildlife. We’ll probably make a few sightings before lunch. We’ll head to your lodge to freshen up and settle in for lunch, surrounded by the park’s natural features. Then we’ll roll out for a big game drive. On the great dusty plains, we may see elephants rolling in the park’s red soil, adorning themselves with a light coating of rouge. We’ll visit various watering holes such as the Aruba Dam and Mudanda Rock where the park’s thirsty inhabitants retreat for a cooling drink. Your driver/guide will be happy to answer any questions you may have and during your 4-day adventure, feel free to let him know if you have any special requests. As the sun wanes, look for one of our dazzling African sunsets on the way to your Tsavo East accommodation. Now it’s time to relax and enjoy dinner.

Day 2 — Tsavo East - Tsavo West
2

Tsavo East - Tsavo West

~60km of game drives

When on safari we rise with the birds and the wildlife, not wanting to miss a thing. Heading out as the first light breaks over the savannah, we’ll look for elephants, buffalo, eland, impala, and lion. Then it’s breakfast time back at our lodge or tented camp. We’ll enjoy another game drive through the park as we exit, on our way to sister park, Tsavo West. You’ll be struck how the colors of this park are different – greener with rolling hills and unique baobab trees. The park also hosts a bounty of wildlife including the endangered rhino. We’ll take a drive to the Nguilia Rhino Sanctuary and see if we can spot these shy creatures. Our second safari evening will be spent at Tsavo West, at the lodge or tented camp of your choice.

Day 3 — Tsavo West - Amboseli
3

Tsavo West - Amboseli

~200km | Approx. 2-3hrs, 2-3hrs Another safari dawn, another early rise to catch the wildlife awakening in the morning’s gentle light. Amidst the park’s hills and ancient lava flows are surprises like the palm-fringed oasis of Mzima Springs, fed by thousands of gallons of fresh water. Home to exotic fish and birds, hippos, and crocodiles, the spring is a source of sustenance for the park’s thirsty wildlife. We’ll take a walk along the banks of the springs and spot elephant, zebra, and others as they come to drink. Now it’s time to jump back into the 4 x 4 for the easy drive to Amboseli Park. We’ll measure our approach as the towering form of Mt. Kilimanjaro entices us closer to the reserve. Lunching at our 3rd accommodation – Amboseli, we’ll take in the grand form of the iconic mountain that stands sentinel over the park’s southern vista. Then it’s time to safari through this popular park. It’s smaller than the Tsavo parks but this means a greater concentration of wildlife to behold. We’ll easily spot elephants, but we’ll also be tracking for lion, buffalo, zebra, gazelle, and cheetah. The park is also home to hyena, fox, jackal, monkey, and baboon, so the viewing will be rich and varied. Between the elephants and other wildlife, all framed by mighty Kilimanjaro, the park is a wonderful spot for picture taking. Be sure to pack extra film for your smartphone! For another type of Amboseli experience ask your guide about the optional visit to a nearby Maasai village. In this cultural encounter, you’ll be able to see close-up how the original people of this land live and sustain themselves. Toward evening the cloud cover around the mountain’s peak often breaks, revealing a heavenly view of the snow-capped summit. We’ll break for dinner and the evening at your safari lodge or tented camp.

Amboseli - Nairobi

~265km | Approx. 4hrs Let’s get up early on our final safari day for another pre-breakfast game drive. That’s how we do it on safari. We’ll head out in the early light to find any wildlife we might have missed. Kilimanjaro’s snow-capped peak may be clear and will catch the sun’s soft rays. We’ll roll back to your lodge for breakfast as the wonders of nature continue to come alive all about. Then it’s time for a mid-morning drive through the park to catch sight of wildlife, birdlife and take in more views of this special place. We’ll exit the park on the drive back to Nairobi and should have you back in town by late afternoon, dropping you off at your hotel, the airport, or place of your choosing. Three parks, four days and so much to see, absorb, and talk about. We hope you had fun on this special safari adventure. Now that you’ve seen these classic parks, you may have gotten the safari bug and want to see our other natural reserves. When you’re ready just give us a call. In the meantime, we will be in touch. Thanks so much for giving us your trust and spending your holiday with us. The C.A.T.S team appreciates your patronage and hopes to see you soon!
